It is no longer breaking news that MTN Nigeria is having problem with Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), as a result of violating the SIM registration directive. The giant network is expected to provide Mobile ID to its over 70 million subscribers.
The information gathered by Nollytech have it, that the new service operated for MTN in SaaS mode by Gemalto Allynsis Services would placed MTN as the Nigeria’s foremost provider of SIM registration for digital identification and validation platform. This is happening so as to rectify its problem with NCC, a body that is solely obligated to regulate Communication policies in Nigeria.
Not long ago, the NCC fined MTN N1.4 trillion ($3.9 billion). The giant network provider launched a court challenge against the fine as they refused to pay. It not surprising in a bid to be on the safer side that it marks the first commercial rollout of SIM based services delivering convenient mobile authentication for all mobile subscribers and offers subscribers universal digital identification; blended with a mobile-based second factor authentication, for payments, secure web service access and other financial transactions.
When this is done, it will go a long Way to easy online transactions and strengthen protection of online services against ID theft and other cyber crimes.
