How To Overclock The CPU And RAM: A Sweeping Guide

When you want to speed up your boot time, it simply means you want to overclock your CPU and equally configure your RAM settings manually. Your question will now be, how to overclock the CPU and RAM. We will address that in this article. Moreover, before you learn how to overclock CPU and RAM, let us look at some basic principles that you need to know.

How to overclock CPU and RAM

The central processing unit (CPU) and random access memory (RAM) are both useful parts of a computer. Also, they need overclocking to enable them to work faster. In this post, we will be showing you the steps you can follow to overclock the CPU and the RAM.

Furthermore, for easy understanding, we will be discussing them separately.

How to overclock CPU

CPU in full means the central processing unit, it is an electronic circuit in a computer that is responsible for conveying the commands of the computer program’s applications.

However, before you overclock your CPU, you need to know if it is overclockable or not. If the answer is yes then you are lucky. But before we proceed you need to know the basic principles that will help you overclock it faster. They are as follows.

  1. Heat; basically the more voltage you add to your computer will determine the more heat it will produce.
  2. Speed; the higher your clock speed the more voltage power you will get.
  3. Detrimental effects; when you have so much voltage on your PC it will result in detrimental effects. This can also lead to failure to boot.

Note this; before you can think of overclocking, you should have the best CPU coolers and processor in place.

Having listed the principles, you can now overclock your CPU by using this following step;

  1. Stable CPU;

You will need to confirm that your CPU is stable because it will make the overclocking to be successful. Also, you will need a Prime95 software to do this.

2. Core Temp;

It will help you to cool your CPU and also help you to monitor your computer software.

3. Stress testing;

Your CPU needs a benchmark to see how hot it runs at 100%. So, when you do a stress testing of the computer you will know how hot it gets. You just have to select it on your Prime95 and it will give you a list of options as to which of the stress tests you want. What you need to choose is ‘Blend Test’ and it will run.

4. Get into Bios;

After your temperature has stabilized, this will take about 5 to 10 minutes, go into Prime95. When you are there select ‘Test’ it is on the top bar, hit ‘Stop’, restart your PC and then select ‘Delete Key’ on your keyboard. This will take you into your BIOS.

5. Auto-overclock;

Inside your BIOS, you will find the overclocking tab, its name is OC Tweaker. However, letting the motherboard do the majority of the work is the easiest way to overclock.

6. Changing the multiplier;

If your CPU multiplier is 35, you will have to change it to 40.

7. Test at max load;

When you have successfully changed your CPU ratio multiplier to 40, you need to save the changes and exit the BIOS. Moreover, you will still need to boot into Windows, open Core Temp, open Prime95, select options, ‘Torture Test and “Blend test, this will enable you to see how your chip fairs at maximum load.

8. Finding the limit;

When you are overclocking your CPU by constantly increasing the multiplier through the process of stress testing, you will get to a point where you will see a Blue Screen of Death or your CPU will begin to thermally throttle itself.

9. Increasing the voltage;

Furthermore, in order to overcome the blue screen issue, you need to start working with the Vcore voltage.

10. Benchmarking;

In addition, for your overclock to be stable, you need to benchmark.

Those steps we listed are all you need to overclock your CPU. Next, let us look at how to overclock your RAM.

How to overclock  RAM

RAM in full means random access memory, everything the device processor receives is sent by RAM. When you overclock your RAM it makes it work faster. You can overclock your RAM by following these steps below.

  1. Confirm your RAM stability; you can use motherboard, memtes86+, super pi 32m or intel’s extreme memory tool software for this.
  2. Default parameters; you need to note ‘good’ on your default parameter. This parameter is where you will return to if all hell breaks out.
  3. Confirm again; you will need to confirm the memory frequency, timing, and voltage. Then repeat the first step if you discover any changes.
  4. Set the memory multiplier to its maximum allowable value. Subsequently, all you need to do is repeat Step 1 again.
  5. Increase of BCLK frequency; you need to adjust the VTT to fit with the BCLK.
  6. If any problem arises,  to solve it, increase the DRAM voltage by 0.01v and repeat step one again.
  7. You should set the CMD to 1.
  8. Finally, tighten the primary memory by adjusting the primary timings. You should also carry out a benchmark/stress test. Kindly note that you should do this test after each set of changes.

Conclusion

In conclusion, you can only enjoy your machine at its utmost potential if you overclock your CPU and RAM. In addition, always make sure you have a Core Temp, this keeps the device cool and functioning. Now that you know all the steps we can say that we have answered the question of how to overclock the CPU and RAM.
