How to Prepare your Students for a Life beyond the Classroom

Students that are used to the traditional type of learning may have a hard time dealing with virtual learning. They will need to plan and prepare ahead to get the best experience of E-learning. Below are some tips that will assist you to do this:

Identify goals and objectives

The first step to achieve anything in life is to identify your goals and objectives. This is also the case with blended learning. As an educator, you need to identify what you hope to achieve at the end of every session. Let your goals be attainable. Know the topics you have to cover before the session ends and how you will go about it. Without a clear goal, blended learning will not be effective and this will affect your student zeal to learn. You can also share the objectives with them so as to carry them along with you.

Prepare course outline

The next step after you have set the objectives is to prepare a proper syllabus for the virtual learning program. Outline every topic that needs to be covered and when they need to be done with them. Attach this outline on the student platform so that they can go there to check their progress. You need to attach what you expect them to learn how to do at the end of every topic. This will serve as a guide for students to test their progress. With a proper outline, you will be able to work effectively with your students.

Traditional classroom usually needs the contribution of students for efficiency. This is the same with blended learning, you need to find ways to engage your students at all time. Make sure you prepare your course in such a way that it needs their contribution. Another method to engage them is asking them to learn on their own after class is over. Give them assessments regularly and tasks which they will need to submit virtually. Blended learning has host of features and tools that will help you improve engagement in classroom. You need your student’s full attention when teaching them virtually.

Regular assessment

You need to discover the right assessment you need to use in tracking your students’ progress. Students get classwork and homework in a physical classroom, you will need to find ways to incorporate it in blended learning. After the completion of each module, you need to find out how you will test their knowledge and know if they are truly following the class. If their result is satisfactory, you will need to proceed, however, if it is not, you will need a better teaching strategy. Your assessment could be a quiz or asking them to summarize all they learnt in class. Whatever it might be, make sure it is engaging and every student participates in them. It will help you know their different strengths and weaknesses.

Open communication

Communication between teachers and students is very important in any method of learning. You need to inform your learners that they are free to discuss whatever they might be struggling with. If they have any problem with virtual learning or any topic, let them feel free to discuss it with you. This will let them feel valuable and supported. Create a support system they can always turn to air their grievances. You will need to come up with ways on how you can get their feedback.  Whatever complaint they might have, try to always find a solution so that you will gain their trust.

In summary, the transitioning to blended classroom might be challenging at first but it gets better as time goes on. Online learning introduces your students to a new and better learning experience. It has been proven to be the most effective method of learning.
